Photoshop Actions Update

Thanks for checking in. :) We are running a bit behind on getting these out, because of how busy I've been. I want to have the tutorial videos complete before the actions go on sale and they're really time-consuming! I will have a tutorial for every action, with tips on how to mess around with them as well as what images they work best with.

So we are now looking at May the 15th as the official release date! So check back then! :)

Engagement Session: Alicin & Andy

And not forgetting their cute daughter, Bria! :)

I think we picked the last day of good weather all month for this photo session. It was warm and sunny with blue skies and no wind. And, yes, this was in Lethbridge! ;) Andy said that he was fond of having nice natural places for the photos, with trees, especially, so we ended up down at the river bottom. Bria got to play on the swings for a while and then Alicin's aunt Sue, who was in our very first blog entry ever, took care of Bria while we did some shots with just Alicin and Andy.

Oh, first we did some family-type shots, too, which were nice. :)

Alicin and Andy were both easy-going and up for my crazy ideas. :) Actually, I think they only gave me weird looks when I was plunging through the scrub with my lighting gear for one of the shots. And even though Andy said when they first met with us that isn't usually a big fan of having his photo taken he was happy and relaxed during their shoot. I have a magic camera that makes people relax! Or maybe it's Sherri's calming presence. That must be it. ;)

Here are the pics! Well, some of the ones that I especially like and can fit on one blog page, anyways. :)

Unique Images Photography Photoshop Actions

That's right, folks; we're releasing a set of 50 actions very soon! I'm super excited about this, partly because my most recent action is a sharpening action that doesn't sharpen the skin! I'm feeling pretty happy with myself for working this one out. I've never come across any action like it. In the past I've always had to mask the skin and paint in the eyes and mouth and all that stuff. This action bypasses the need for masks on skin. Not only is that a cool thing in itself, but it also means that you can use this action to batch-sharpen a whole bunch of images and get them really sharp without worrying about nasties in the skin.

It also has a few more cool effects, but I'm going to keep quiet about them in case I give too much away and someone works out what I've done and copies me. :)

I'll be setting this set of 50 actions for sale sometime next week. Included in the action set will also be a link to where you can download instructional videos on how to best use them. The first 100 buyers will also get access to a special video on my retouching methods.

Stay tuned! :)

Mark & Whitney's Engagement

Mark and Whitney were bunches of fun and very easy to get photos of. They are so clearly smitten with one another that they weren't self-conscious about being in front of the camera at all. Not that I'd call Mark self-conscious in any case—but I don't think I'm going to blog that photo. :)

And it wasn't windy for once! Lethbridge actually gave us a day without wind. Yay! :) A day without wind is a good day. (I think that's a rejected Heinz Beans slogan). It was a little chilly for Whitney, but she was great and didn't complain. Both of them had just flown in from Europe (Poland and London) and had had a pretty long week, so I'm totally amazed at how fantastic they were during the session. That's the power of love, people. I'd have been too tired to smile.

Anyways, I really enjoyed their engagement photo session and took lots and lots of photos. Sherri and I are looking forward to their wedding this July! :)

Jenn & Jode's Wedding

Wow, what a weekend!

Congratulations to Jenn and Jode—a super-fun couple from Glenevis, Alberta—who finally tied the knot, on the ten-year anniversary of their relationship.

I pretty much did this wedding alone. I had my father-in-law to assist me, but I was the only photographer. Sherri stayed in Lethbridge.

The weekend kicked off with a relaxed reception-ish party on Saturday night, with dinner and live music provided by Jenn's family.

Apparently Jenn is the reigning queen of air hockey up in Glenevis. Well, she was until I got there. :) That's right, folks, I am the air-hockey table master. But I pretended that I didn't know how to play and challenged Jenn to a game. Oh, man, did she ever fall for it. 10 goals to 4, baby! I have photos of my victory, but I am too modest to blog them.

The wedding ceremony was the next day before lunch in the most unique venue I've ever seen for a wedding, by far: an old schoolhouse. Jenn and Jode own it (they're converting it to something else) and they wanted the wedding in there. It was actually very cool, with big windows and funky colours and textures everywhere. As a photographer it was easily one of the most interesting venues I've seen.

Their daughter was the flower-girl—she was really cute!—and the ceremony was sweet, with lots of laughs. Afterwards we had a lunch reception—yes, that's two receptions!—and then took some more pics. :)

Jode and Jenn were not only lots of fun and obviously in love, but they were also really into the photos, giving me as much time and opportunities as I wanted. Some of the images involved such things as dirt basements, petrol and matches, train carriages, two different ladders, and more besides! I have so many shots I like that I'm finding it hard to narrow them down to fit them on just one blog page. Ah well, that's a good problem to have, right? :)
